Strange Sight

So here's something interesting. The other day I'm driving down this long road, on my way to a Christmas party I'm drawing for. As I'm driving I happen upon something I never thought in my wildest dreams I would ever see. I couldn't tell what it was from far away, but as I get closer I just can't believe what's in front of me: there is a real camel sitting in an old brightly colored school bus! So as I'm driving behind it and at the same time I'm fumbling to find my camera, because I know that later on I'll just think I imagined the whole thing. So here is the proof for the world to see. Photoshop landscapes

I was inspired by a post on Marco Bucci's blog and Xiangyuan Jie. So I used some photos from my trip to Los Angeles a few months ago, and tried to do some small photoshop sketches. I tried really hard to NOT use the eyedropper tool, but I did end up using it quite a bit. I spent about 20 minutes on each one. I've never really just tried to do any landscape stuff just for the sake of the landscape before. Honestly I barely put any backgrounds in anything I do, which is not a good thing. I would really like to get a better grasp of light and color as well. Plus I live in friggin Florida and this place has plenty of great landscapes to paint, so I guess I don't have any excuses. It's Christmas Time

I was asked to make new christmas demos for the stand for the upcoming season. I hung this one up at one of the stands, and a day or two later it just disappeared. Good thing I took a picture of it! Enjoy!

Portrait

Here is a portrait I attempted of my late grandmother. I still have a lot to learn about painting and portraits. I feel on this one I started out pretty good and kind of got lost as I went along. But I learned a few things along the way. This one was done in acrylic on canvas. If you want to see some really inspiring acrylic work, check out my link to Kruger's blog on the right. I spent a lot of time looking at that for motivation. I have a long way to go, but I'm enjoying the process.

Full Sketchbook

I don't really know why, but for some reason, I really like throwing away a sketchbook once I have filled it up. Probably because its mostly filled with scribbley crap. Unfortunately, in doing so I also end up losing a few good sketches. But since I have a blog now, I figured I could just scan the stuff I like and post it here. Enjoy!

Convention Caricatures

I love this one because it was done during the speed competition. It probably was drawn in all of about 5 to 10 seconds and you can still tell its me!


I think this one really captures my personality.


This one is by the talented Sam Gorrie. I must confess I really wanted her to draw me this year. This one was drawn on a tiny one inch button you can wear.

This one is one of my favorites. Jeremy Townsend is one of the few caricature artists who's drawings make me laugh until my sides hurt.



Here are some caricatures I got from the NCN Convention. This was the first caricature convention I went to that wasn't in Orlando (all the way in Reno, in fact) and I had a great time. I have a bunch of pictures of my artwork and work from my favorite artists and I promise to post those soon. Sorry that I haven't posted anything for such a long time, but I just got back from visiting friends in L.A. Check back soon though for more convention pics and such. Thanks to everyone who drew me.

Playing with watercolor

I haven't touched watercolor in a long time, so I tried to pick it up again. Mostly I've been playing with a few mediums to see what I want to take with me to the upcoming NCN Convention. These I drew from stills from the movie The Quick and the Dead. (the one directed by Sam Raimi)

I put this sketch in here because I think I the likeness is slightly better in the pencil sketch and I cant figure out why. I think later on I'll try this one again and see if i can develop it further. (I know I always say that and hardly ever follow through)
